Ed was a scholar, lawyer, historian, and law professor. He was also the author of several biographies, including Lengthen Your Stride, a history of his father's church presidency. Ed suffered from polio as a child and served an LDS mission in the Netherlands. After earning a bachelor's degree in history and a law degree from University of Utah, he earned two law degrees from University of Pennsylvania. He and Bee were married in 1954, and they raised seven children. Ed's career as a law professor included University of Montana from 1956 to 1962, University of Wisconsin from 1962 to 1973, and Brigham Young University from 1973 to 1995.
