Raymondville- Donald L. Boughton, 83, of Holmes St. , died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Bassett Medical Center, surrounded by his family, following a 6-year fight with cancer.

Born July 24, 1929, at home in Richmondville, he was the son of Fred S. and Hazel (Strait), Boughton. He graduated from Richmondville Central High School in 1949 in Vocational Agriculture, where he was an active Class President, FAA Officer, and baritone player in the band. He was also involved in Dramatics, Glee Club, Basketball, Yearbook staff, and Prize speaking.

Donald was a United States Air Force veteran, serving in France from 1950 until receiving an honorable discharge as a staff sergeant in 1954. He then went onto college at SUNY Cobleskill where he graduated in 1956 with an Associate in Applied Science with a major in Agriculture.

He married his best friend from high school, Margaret Peck, in 1954. They shared 59 wonderful years together where they enjoyed traveling, gardening, swing dancing, genealogy, and spending time with their family. They raised 3 children, Diane, Rene, and Kevin and later their grandchild, Kelly Boughton.

Donald lived most of his life in Richmondville, moving to Mays Landing, NJ in 1964. He retired from Computer Science Corp. in Atlantic City, NJ in 1995 where he was a consultant for the Federal Aviation Administration (where he was previously employed from 1967-1990).

While living in Mays Landing, he was a member of the Oakcrest High School Board of Education and the Barber Shop Quartet.

Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to Schenevus, NY later moving back to his hometown Richmondville and he became active in the community as a member of the American Legion Post 245 in Richmondville as well as the county level, Richmondville Alumni Association as a lifetime member, Richmondville Rural Cemetery Trustee, Senior Citizens of Otsego County where he was honored in 2002 for his volunteer work and received the Senior Citizen of the Year award, Young at Heart of Richmondville, and president of Schoharie County Office of the Aging Senior Council, and a valued member of Richmondville Days Committee for several years.

Donald served his church, St. Paul's Lutheran in Richmondville, in various capacities including council member for numerous years, food pantry volunteer, youth organization leader, Sunday School Superintendent, treasurer, and volunteer cook for many church suppers.

He was predeceased by their infant daughter, Kathy Jo Boughton.

Survivors include his wife: Margaret (Peck) Boughton ; three children: Diane (Randy) Hummell of Montpelier, VA, Rene (Erna) Boughton of Cobleskill, and Kevin (Kathy) Boughton of Liberty, KY; six grandchildren: Kelly Boughton of Maryland, NY, Robert Hummell of Smithfield, VA, Barbara Hummell of Richmond, VA, Nathan Boughton of Randolph, NY, Kevin Boughton, Jr. and Tiffany Boughton both of Liberty, KY; four great-grandchildren: Justin Norton, Ellise, Alexis, and Isabelle Hummell.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 12, 2013, at St. Paul 's Lutheran Church, 265 Main St. , Richmondville with Rev. Jonathan Litzner officiating. Inurnment will follow with military honors at Richmondville Rural Cemetery. There will be a luncheon following inurnment at the church.
