*Full name may have been Nicolaus Peter Leonhard Priester*

Father of Frank Priester of Priester's Park, IL and Leonard Priester of St. Louis, MO.

Priester came to the U.S. in the hope of seeing his brother before the brother died, but he arrived three weeks after the brother passed.

Priester was a sympathizer with German revolutionist in 1848 and 1849. He escaped death at the hands of the government by lying in the streets and pretending he was dead. He afterwards escaped to France and remained there until 1852, when he was pardoned and returned to his country.

For over 40 years he was a member of the Council of his native city, Waldmichelbach, hessen Darmstadt, Germany. He often refused to become Mayor. For over 50 years, he was director of the band of Waldmichelbach.

He died at the Alexian Brothers' Hospital. On the next Saturday, he would have attained his 86th birthday.

The funeral took place at the residence of his son at 3106 South Grand avenue in St. Louis. The sermon was preached by Dr. Max Hempel, a friend of the family. The remains were taken to the Missouri Crematory, where they were cremated. The Liederkranz quartette sang at the funeral.
