Rutha Jane "Ruth" (Steely) Boyce was born on October 15, 1859 in Kentucky, the daughter of Hezekiah Steely (ca 1810–1882) and Mary Moody (Albritten) Steely (ca 1814–1882).
She was married about 1884 to Isaac Payne Boyce (1859–1930), the son of Albert Boyce and Eliza (Dunn) Boyce. At the time of the 1900 and 1910 censuses, the family was farming in Henry County, Tennessee. By 1920, still in Henry County, Isaac was a retail salesman, and in the 1930 census, Isaac and Ruth were listed in the Nashville home of their daughter Numa (Boyce) Cooper and her husband Curtis M Cooper.
Living at 1620 Long Avenue in Nashville, Ruth was 76 years old and a widow when she died on March 9, 1936 at home of pulmonary TB. Burial was two days later in Spring Hill Cemetery.
