Betty Jean Detamore, 84, Upland, went to be with the Lord at 6:50 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at University Nursing Center in Upland. She was born in Heber Springs, Arkansas, to the late Clarence and Leslie (Smith) Betts. She was a graduate of Marion High School and married Phillip Detamore on January 17, 1953, who preceded her in death on December 12, 2001.

Betty Jean worked in Food Services at the Marion V.A. Medical Center. She was very involved in her church at Grace Community, of which she was a founding member. She loved her church and enjoyed being part of the kitchen crew. Betty Jean also loved her grandbabies greatly, and she enjoyed spending time with her friends, to whom she was very loyal. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading and crocheting.

Survivors include her daughter, Debra (Johan) Smeddal, Marion; grandchildren, Phillip J. (Katie) Evans, Marion, Tiffany J. Jager, Swayzee, and Lindsay Fields, Marion; 8 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Leroy (Vivian) Betts, Phoenix, Arizona, Lorine Joyner, Michigan, Evelena Seller, Bebe, Arkansas.

In addition to her parents and husband, preceding Betty Jean in death were a daughter, Phyllis Fields, and siblings, Carl Betts, C.W. Betts, and Dorothy Storey.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday, November 18, 2016, at Grace Community Church, 1810 E. Bradford Pike, Marion, IN. Services will begin at 12 noon with Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will follow at Marion National Cemetery.
