SALLIE EDNES BISHOP
Sallie Ednes Dowell was born in Spencerburg, Missouri, June 12, 1867. She passed away at her home in Portland, Oregon on April 12, 1945.
She was married to Edward R. Farabee in 1898. Early widowed, she was left with three small children, a daughter and two sons. She was again united in marriage to Rev. Samuel E. Bishop on June 8, 1909.
She united with the M.E. Church at the age of fifteen but later in life joined the baptist church having her latest membership in Glencoe Baptist church in Portland. Keenly interested in music, Mrs. Bishop was ever active in choir and piano work during her husband's ministry and as late as Easter, April 1, 1945, played the opening songs for her church school.
She attended Hardin College Conservatory of Music and taught piano at Beaver City, Neb. during her residence there with her four sisters and one brother, from 1888 to 1897. She was ever devoted to her family, constantly concerned for their welfare, happiness and right living. Her friends and neighbors were always assured a gracious welcome in her home.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, the Rev. S.E. Bishop of Portland, Oregon; her daughter, Mrs. Charles E. Gurney, also of Portland; her sons Monte P. Farabee of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Maurice S. Farabee of Colorado Springs; and a step-son, H. L. Bishop of Kearney, Neb. Other survivors are three sisters and a brother; Lila V. Dowell and Sidney J. Dowell of Portland; Mrs. F.M. Snyder of Pawnee City, Neb.; Mrs. E.R. Harman of Norton, Ks.; four nieces and six nephews. Also there are these grandchildren, Sallie B., James S. and Ronald C. Farabee of Cheyenne.
Her husband adds these lines, "the last evening of her life she spent in reading her bible, and this we say, she did not die, for now she lives on high." Interment was made in Lincoln Memorial high on MT Scott overlooking the late Portland home.
