Hurricane

Shirley Jean Leavitt passed away peacefully in her home, Sunday morning, November 13, 2016.

She was born July 3, 1940 to Shirley and Jean Booth.

She spent the first 10 years of her life in St George, Utah playing on the red hill.

Her dad ran the old Gaiety Movie Theater and she would spend many evenings watching movies with him.

The family moved to Henderson, Nevada in 1950 to the Carver Park area.

Her parents moved into the down town Las Vegas area in 1953 next to the Water District which was the very edge of town, where she attended Junior High and High school.

At that time there were only 2 high schools, Vegas and Henderson High.

She graduated in 1958.

She married Don Seaton and had 2 daughters, Robin, and Pennie. After they divorced she married George Cricks and had a son Daniel.

She later divorced George.

She worked as a receptionist and medical secretary for several doctors.

It was at this time that she met the love of her life, Dell Lane Leavitt, who came into her office to take a police report.

They were married on April 5, 1974, and were later sealed in the St George LDS Temple on March 19, 1988.

She held various church callings in the Relief Society and Young Women organizations, she was a visiting teacher, and a called patron temple worker.

She worked for Bechtel Civils and Minerals.

They were contract administrators for the construction on the McCarran International Airport.

After that she went to work for GC Wallace Engineering.

She stayed with them until she retired in 2000.

Her and her husband traveled all around the United States, and parts of Canada for the next 7 years.

Shirley enjoyed collecting t-shirts and nick-knacks from each stop they made.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, and 2 older brothers, Jerry and Ted Booth.

She is leaving behind her adoring husband, Dell Lane Leavitt of 42 years, 2 sisters, Kathy Fuson, (Spike), and Toni Parsons, (Mark), daughter Robin, Pennie Kost (Rusty), Danny (Mike), Derek Lane Leavitt, and Tricia Ann Sykes (Jason), 9 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, November 18, 2016, at the Hurricane Stake Center on 677 South 700 West in Hurricane, Utah.

Graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at Toquerville City Cemetery.
