Confirmed at Little Cedar on May 31, 1908

Oscar Torgerson and Clara Lewison were married 8/28/1916. Attendants were Nordeen Lewison and Lizzie Lewison.

The Austin Daily Herald 1987-06-18 page 6:

Clara Lewison Torgerson was born December 26, 1893, to Lewis and Betsy Lewison, on a farm in rural northeast Adams. She had a twin brother, Alfred.

Clara was baptized and confirmed at Little Cedar Lutheran Church. After attending country school, Clara and her sister, Lizzie, bought a millinery shop in Hawkeye, Iowa. On August 28, 1916, Clara married Oscar Torgerson at Little Cedar Lutheran Church. Oscar was associated with the Daylight Store in Adams until his death in 1937.

In 1943, her son Sydney was killed in World War II. Clara became involved in the American Legion Auxiliary, being a past president of that organization, and was a Gold Star Mother. She was a life-long member of Little Cedar Lutheran Church and was active in Circle, Ladies Aid, the Quilting Ladies, and was a chaperone for the Little Cedar girls at bible camp.

Clara's family was very special to her, especially the children. When her own children were young, their friends were always welcome in her home. As her family grew with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she became a very special Grandma. In the past years, her greatest joy was when her great-grandchildren would come for a visit.

Clara loved to travel and went on many trips, including The Holy Lands, The Scandinavian and European Countries, Hawaii, and traveled extensively in the United States.

Clara also liked to do needlework and seldom would be seen without a crochet hook in her hands. She crocheted numerous items for friends and relatives and had made an afghan for each of her grandchildren and most of her great-grandchildren.

Clara died Saturday, June 6th, 1987, at the Adams Health Care Center where she had resided for the past three years. She was 93 years old.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, two sisters, two brothers, and two great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter and son-on-law, Eunice and Aaron Huseby, Adams; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Doris Torgerson, Austin; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Blanche and Stephen Wolfe, Rochester; and Juletta and Clifford Iverson, LeRoy; one brother and sister-in-law, Ole and Char Lewison, Orland, California, eight grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 9, 1987, at Little Cedar Lutheran Church, Adams, Pastor Allen Gunderson officiating. Marjie Meier was organist and Dee Hamilton soloist.

Interment was in Little Cedar Cemetery. Pallbearers were Allen Huseby, Porter Hemingway, Wayne Schramm, Randy Stephenson, Steve, Tom, Jeff, Tim Torgerson.
