Gilbert Hightower Is Married, Living in Memphis

Gilbert Hightower, son of Mrs. Elnis Hightower, 444 South Fourth street, west, was married in Memphis, Tenn., to Joan Dalton. The ceremony was performed by Rev. T. H. Mullins in the Epworth Methodist church.

Mr. Hightower and his bride will live at 659 Pope street in Memphis, where he is stationed in the navy. He has been an apprentice seaman for six months.

Close friends and relatives were present for the wedding.

The couple was attended by Douglas Quackenbush, best man, and Evelyn Palmer, maid of honor.

After the wedding the newlyweds left for a short honeymoon trip to Little Rock, Ark.

HAMILTON - Gilbert Rowe Hightower, 76, of Hamilton, passed away of natural causes, Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at home with his beloved wife Joan.

Gil was born May 29, 1930, to Omar and Myrna (Dietrich) Hightower of Stevensville. His mother Myra was visiting her family in Brielle, N.J., when Gil was born. Gil was the third of six children.

He spent his early life in the Bitterroot area, graduating from Hamilton High School. He worked as a ranch hand and for the U.S. Forest Service.

Gil was a Navy veteran.

He was an electronics expert and worked as a technician and sales representative for IBM, Simplex and Motorola before forming several data processing businesses in Mississippi and Tennessee. He returned to Montana in 1987, where he operated a family air purification sales and service business with Joan, and served as a volunteer for both Bitterroot Public Television and for Green Thumb.

Gil and Joan Ruth Tate were married for 57 wonderful and loving years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert L. Hightower of Missoula.

Survivors include his wife Joan; daughters Terry Leigh Turcotte of Tallahassee, Fla., and Mindy Sullivan of Frisco, Texas; and a son, Jack W. Hightower of Missoula. He is also survived by a niece and foster daughter, Sheila Colyer of Sula; sisters Marie E. Reed and Doris J. Hightower and brother Arthur O. (Georgia) Hightower, all of Missoula; brother Howard C. (Janet) Hightower of Jackson, Miss.; and grandchildren Scott Sullivan, Tina Curl, Lt. Leigh Anne Turcotte, USN and Erin Sydney Turcotte. Great-grandchildren are Christopher Curl and Molly Marie Sullivan.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at Sunnyside Cemetery on Three-Mile Road north of Stevensville. Vicky Bohlig will officiate a Baha'i service. American Legion Post No. 94 will present military honors.

A reception will follow at the American Legion Hall on Middle Burnt Fork Road, Stevensville.

Should friends desire in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bitterroot Public Television, P.O. Box 838, Hamilton, MT 59840.

The Whitesitt Funeral Home of Stevensville is in charge of arrangements.
