In 1920 she and her parents, four siblings, her father's brother Thomas, and her six-year-old cousin, Robert Burch, lived in a house they owned, with a mortgage, in the same township. Her father, uncle, brothers Ivan and Wayne all worked as coal miners. She married James Houpt March 16, 1929.

In 1930 she and her first husband lived in a house they were renting for $35 a month at 1121 Prospect Street in Flint, MI. They did have a radio. He worked as an auto worker in a factory.

In 1940 she and Verl and their two children lived in a house they owned at 874 Tacken Street in Flint. Their home was valued at $2700. He worked as a machine operator in an auto factory, with an income in 1939 of $1500 for 35 weeks of work.

She married Otto Hall February 28, 1942.
