Claude "Amos" M. Ulshafer, 81, of Main Street, Sybertsville, died Saturday morning from injuries sustained in an accident near his home.
Born in Nuremberg, June 11, 1920, he was the son of the late Clair M. and Mame (Keller) Ulshafer, and spent the past 35 years in Sybertsville. Prior to that, he lived in Nuremberg. He was of the Lutheran faith.
A retired stone mason, he had been employed by the Harold Benjamin Real Estate firm.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, participated in the campaigns of Tunisia and Algeria, and was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon, the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with two Bronze Stars and an Arrow Head, and Good Conduct Ribbons.
Mr. Ulshafer was a member of the Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8161 and American Legion Post 560, both of Conyngham.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were sisters, Beatrice Ulshafer and Joan Krause.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the former Helen Kukielko; a son, Clair, Hazleton; a daughter, Claudette Ulshafer, Belle Harbor, N.J.; one grandson; a brother, Martin, Conyngham; sisters, Mrs. Rudy (Betty) Margle, Sybertsville; Mrs. Adrian (Lindy) Fisher, Macungie; Mrs. Henry (Eva) Kline, Orangeville; Mrs. Frank (Sherry) Mashack, Las Vegas; Violet Chamberlain, Bloomsburg, and Mrs. Charles (Janet) Slusser, Orangeville; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Mark S. Harman Funeral Home (West), Conyngham-Rock Glen Road. Burial will follow in the Nuremberg Cemetery.
