Martha Ann Goad, 85, of 605 S. Harper St. and widow of Ernest Harold Goad, passed away Friday, November 11, 2016, at her home.

Born in Hope, Arkansas, she was a daughter of the late David Lawrence Sullivan and Mable Douthit Carpenter. Mrs. Goad was the legal secretary for the Marshall Abercrombie Law Firm. A member of First United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Wesley Class and secretary of the Council of Ministry. A former president of the Laurens Business and Professional Women, she was the founder and first president of the Laurens Legal Secretary Association. She was also a member of VFW Auxiliary.

Surviving are her daughters, Lou Ann Wakeland and husband Steven of Laurens and Elizabeth Love Hatfield and husband Dr. David Hatfield of Severn, Maryland; sister Davalene Sullivan Burch of Louisville, KY; grandson, Michael Taylor of Charlotte; great granddaughter, Aubrey Morton of Charlotte; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, November 13, 2016, at The Kennedy Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Alice MacKeil. Burial in Arlington National Cemetery will be held at a later date.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The Kennedy Mortuary immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 500 Academy St., Clinton, SC 29325, or to a charity of one's choice.
