Dr. John A. Abbruzzese, Jr., 87, of Stroud Township, died Tuesday, November 8, 2016 in his home. He was the husband of the late, Jean (Dezzutti) Abbruzzese with whom he shared 63 years of marriage at the time of her death on September 22, 2015. Born on December 19, 1928 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late John A. Sr. and Frances (Curcio) Abbruzzese.

He was a psychologist, educator and school administrator. Dr. Abbruzzese was a chemistry and physics teacher from 1950 to 1956; a United States Army personnel psychologist from 1951-1953; and since 1956 was a psychologist for Monroe County Schools, assistant Co-Superintendent of Monroe County Schools and then the Superintendent of the Monroe County Schools. He then became the Director of Special Education and, following that, the Executive Director of Colonial Northampton Intermediate Unit 20 A Korean War veteran, he served in the United States Army from 1951-1953. John was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church in Stroudsburg. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #319, Fr John T. Butler Knights of Columbus #4084, Rotary Club, and, as an avid photographer, the Stroudsburg Photo Club.

Surviving are his three children, Dr. John A. Abbruzzese III and his wife April of Bethlehem, Dr. Mark R. Abbruzzese and his wife Carol of Silver Spring, MD and Eugenia Abbruzzese Taylor of Stroudsburg; four grandchildren, Allison C. Abbruzzese Dooley and her husband, Daniel of Bethesda, MD, Amy E. Abbruzzese of Silver Spring, MD, John David Taylor of Stroudsburg and Bradford P. Taylor of Stroudsburg; and great grand-daughter, Nora E. Dooley of Bethesda, MD.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00PM on Sunday, November 20, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Monday, November 21, at St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, 818 Main Street, Stroudsburg. Cremation was private and burial will be at a later date at Stroudsburg Cemetery.
