Gloria M. Deitz, 72, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016, in Holy Cross Hospital, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Gloria was born in Ashley on Jan. 5, 1944, the daughter of the late Harry and Sophia Shiakosky Penkrot.

Gloria resided in Liberty Hills Manor, Hanover Township, until she moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to be near her grandson.

Gloria was a member of the graduating class of Ashley High School, Class of 1961, and also graduated from Star Technical Institute Medical Assisting Program, Kingston.

Gloria was employed in the garment industry, and by the former Aldino's and Piledggi's restaurants. She worked as a medical assistant until retiring in 2007.

She was a member of St. Leo's/Holy Rosary Church, Ashley. She was also a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, Wilkes-Barre.

Gloria enjoyed reading, word puzzles and, most of all, spending time with her family.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert J. Deitz, on Dec. 18, 2006; brothers, John and Leonard Penkrot; and sisters, Regina Gomb, Rita Booke and Irene Matukaitis.

Surviving are a son, Joseph J. Deitz and his spouse, Jeffrey M. Miller, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; daughter, Linda A. Cannon and her husband, John Cannon, Antioch, Calif.; sister, Helen Przewlocki, Ashley; and grandson, Matthew J. Deitz. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Gloria will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday from George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. in St. Leo's/Holy Rosary Church, Manhattan Street, Ashley.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Leo's/Holy Rosary Church, 33 Manhattan St., Ashley, PA 18706.
