THE BALTIMORE SUN
Sister Alice Lanasa, a member of the Daughters of Charity and retired dietitian, died of complications from osteoporosis Oct. 4 at Villa St. Michael, her order's retirement residence in Emmitsburg. She was 84.
Born and raised in Hamilton as Frances Lanasa, she graduated from Seton High School in 1937. She entered the Daughters of Charity in 1939 and professed her vows in 1944.
She earned a bachelor's degree in dietetics from St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg in 1947, and certification from the School of Dietetics at St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit in 1948.
She briefly taught school before beginning her 36-year career as a dietitian. She held assignments in Detroit, Bridgeport, Conn., and Buffalo and Troy, N.Y., before being assigned to Villa St. Michael, then located in Baltimore, in 1964.
She also held positions as dietitian at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland and Jenkins Memorial Home in Southwest Baltimore, where she returned after it became St. Elizabeth's Home for Nursing Care. She later served as a parish visitor at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Towson, and provided pastoral care at St. Elizabeth's until retiring in 1997.
A Mass of Christian burial was offered Tuesday at the Basilica of the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg.
Sister Alice is survived by a sister, Sister Francis Marie Lanasa of Emmitsburg, and many nephews and nieces
