Rodger was a very talented man who could do almost anything. He farmed the land, raising corn, wheat, tobacco and most of their food. He raised hogs for meat and cows for milk. He was a master at working with steel and made most of his own tools, shoed horses, blacksmith welding, making springs for guns, repairing wagons, sharpening axes and saws. Building and construction was another interest. He laid brick, which he also made himself. He built houses, barns, did repairing, drew blueprints and figured amount of lumber needed and sizes for buildings and houses friends and neighbors were planning to build. He made beautiful hand carved furniture, axe handles, and well buckets. At nights he became a barber, cutting hair for 10c a head, 15c when he used his electric shears.
Rodger loved to fish and played the violin, guitar, autoharp, French harp, piano and the Banjo (his most favorite instrument.)
He was an active member of Enterprise Moravian Church and during his lifetime served on the board, taught Sunday School classes and served as superintendent.
Rodger & Mary were blessed with 5 children: Orville Raymond, Irvan McKeever, Howard Rodger, Winnie Modena, and George Washington.
