Amado Luna was called home early Sunday morning. He was born July 10, 1929 in Dry Creek near Winston, New Mexico and passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2016 with his family by his side.

Amado was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Libby of 63 years; daughter, Lillian; grandson, Bowden White; and parents, Santos & Rafaelita.

Survivors include: Brothers – Donald Luna (Elsie) and Flor Luna (Olivia); one son, Robert Luna (Fran) and daughter, Martha Johnson (Ron). Grandchildren: Michael Espinosa (Bernadette), Travis Luna (Sharon), Karen Liello, Carla Sewall (Phillip) Shelly Thedford (Chance), Josh Mays, and AJ White (Tara); several great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and an abundance of other family members.

Amado served his country proudly in the Korean War and retired from the New Mexico Highway Department in May, 1991. He and his wife, Libby made their home in Winston, NM where they raised their three children. The same place each of their grandchildren could spend countless hours recollecting about all the fun times at Grandpa and Granny's. Amado loved, cherished and adored his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Like clockwork every afternoon Amado and Libby could be found sitting on their porch watching cars go by and neighbor after neighbor stopping by to visit. Following Libby's absence Amado still made his way to his porch. You were always greeted with a smile, a hug and a handshake and in leaving his last words to you were always "God Bless you". Amado was one of Winston's cherished old timers. He was loved and respected by everyone. He loved to tell stories and reminisce about the good old days. He knew the area like the back of his hand and could name mountains, creeks, roads and usually had a good story to go along with it.

Amado never met a stranger and he treated everyone with kindness. He saw the good in each soul he met. He loved life more than most. In his earlier days, some would say Amado had a streak on orneriness in him which made him so unique and added to his stories later in life. Amado had a passion for his cattle. He also liked to hunt, he loved the outdoors but most of all he loved being with family.

The last year Amado spent most of his time in town with his daughter and son-in-law. His new hobby became farming. Giving up the porch in Winston didn't slow him down any. Most of his afternoons were spent working in his shop and driving around his property on his golf cart. Amado will be missed by so many. Heaven gained the rarest of rare and the best of the best. SOK.
