Lloyd Hugh Courtney, age 81 – a longtime resident of Elwood - joined his true love in Heaven on November 3, 2009 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following a very brief illness. He was born February 28, 1928 in Fort Smith, AR. He was a Foreman at Steel Slitting Corporation in Elwood for 35 years retiring in 1990. He was a 1945 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School, and was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War. He married the love of his life - Carol Sue Kurtz on July 23, 1948. He was a longtime member of the Elwood Elks Lodge #368 and the Elwood Men’s Bowling League. He enjoyed spending time with his wife at the bowling alley during the youth bowling leagues. He also enjoyed spending time at the family lake house, and was an avid fisherman. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Survivors include: 2 Sons – Brian and wife Kandie Courtney of Elwood and Kevin and wife Lou Ann Courtney of Naperville, IL; 5 Grandchildren – Darcie and husband Monte McCorkle of Elwood, Adrianne Courtney of Atlanta, Andrea Courtney of Naperville, IL, Blake Courtney of Elwood, and Emma Courtney of Naperville, IL.; Several Nieces and Nephews. At the time of his death, he was also anticipating the birth of his first Great-Grandson – Mason McCorkle.

He was preceded in death by: Parents – Francis J. and Letha E. (Toothaker) Courtney; Wife who died July 30, 2008 – Carol Sue Courtney; 2 Brothers – Edward Courtney and Leslie C. Courtney.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, November 9, 2009 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of the East Main Street Christian Church officiating. Burial will take place in the Elwood City Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 PM Sunday, November 8, 2009 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. The Elwood Elks Lodge will conduct a Memorial Service at 6:00 PM Sunday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the East Main Street Christian Church.
