Joan May Pfeifer, age 90, passed away November 1, 2016, All Saints Day, at Fairhaven Nursing Home, Whitewater, WI, with her favorite son* at her side.
Joan was born April 26, 1926 to the late Morten and Mary (Carbon) Tveten.
Joan attended Manitowoc public schools and graduated from Lincoln High School. She attended St. Olaf College where she met Guy Pfeifer, also of Manitowoc. He had a great sense of humor and made her laugh. He could sing. She liked his name. So she married him August 30, 1947 at First Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. Guy preceded Joan in death December 28, 2015.
Joan was an active member of First Lutheran becoming director of the Cherub Choir, instructor of the Bethel Bible Series, and soprano in the Chancel Choir where she had trouble hitting the highest notes. She was a home visitor for the MPS Preschool Program.
Mom was also a calligrapher and distributor for the annual Krismus Kollectables ornaments and home décor.
Joan is survived by her five children: favorite son Guy (Nancy) Pfeifer, Milwaukee, WI; favorite daughter Kristine (Joe) Eisele, Eagle River, WI; James Pfeifer*, see opening paragraph, Atlanta, GA; favorite son John (Sandy) Pfeifer, Austin, TX; and favorite daughter Ann (Randy) Holschbach, Whitewater, WI.
She is further survived by her eight grandsons, all favorites: Peter (Liz) Otis, Hans, Christiaan (Shirley), and Nikolaus (Cheri) Pfeifer, Ryan (Vanessa) and Aaron Holschbach, and James and David Pfeifer. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, nephews and most favorite niece, MaryJo Vollendorf.
The family extends special thanks to the staff at Fairhaven for their tender, loving care of Joan while she resided there. We also thank Nitardy Funeral Home in Whitewater for their compassionate assistance to the family.
Visitation with the family for both Guy and Joan will be at First Lutheran Church, 521 N. 8th Street, Manitowoc, WI on Thursday, April 27, 2017 with interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, WI.
"When the evening closes in and you shut your weary eyes, I'll be there as I have always been with just one more surprise. I was there to hear your borning cry, I'll be there when you are old. I rejoiced the day you were baptized, to see your life unfold".
