Their marriage occurred February 27, 1849. Mary Elizabeth Everhart suffered a paralytic stroke in her 89th year. With her advanced age, the shock was more than her ordinarily robust constitution could withstand. She passed away November 16, 1914, in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edgar Powell (Dora Amanda). She lived at the Palisade Hotel.
She was buried in Hillsdale, Kansas. Mrs. Everhart was a steadfast adherent of the Primitive Baptist faith and led an intensely religious life. She was always prepared to meet her maker and feared not to go.
Before the end came, she made her suggestions about the funeral, and selected the hymns which she wished sung at her burial services. She was of strong mentality, happy disposition and high ideals. It is regretted that Mary Elizabeth Everhart could not have been longer spared.
Friends who attended her funeral services pronounced Rev. Cash's eulogy one of the most beautiful ever heard in Miami County.
She is survived by eight children: Four Daughters and Four Sons: Silas C. Everhart of Ness Co. Kansas; Mrs. Dora Powel and Mrs J.W. Schwarzel of Excelsior Springs; Mrs Sterling (Mary Louise) Hornbuckle of Middle Creek township; George W. Everhart of Glasgow, Mo.; Chas. and D.A. Everhart and Mrs. Emma Reynolds of Kansas City. Besides these she had 39 Grandchildren and 54 Great Grandchildren.
