Frances Pate Bain

Funeral services for Frances Pate Bain, 95, of Lufkin and formerly of Centerville, will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 31, in the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.

Interment will follow in the Centerville Cemetery.

Frances Hester Pate was born to Riley and Sophie Hester Pate on Oct. 17, 1910 on the farm at the Duncan Hill near Oakwood.

She was the second of 11 children. She died in Lufkin on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Ted,; her daughter, Mary Frances, her parents, and eight of her brothers and sisters.

During World War II, she served as the Red Cross Service officer for Leon County, and then she became a field worker for the Texas Department of Human Services and worked out of the Centerville office until her retirement in 1975.

In her retirement, she operated an income tax business and had many loyal customers until about three years ago. She also loved to travel and saw much of the world in her retirement.

She is survived by her children, Bonnie and Wilton Killam of Lufkin, and Ted and Jean Bain of Colorado City; and grandchildren Bob and Scottie Killam of Silsbee, Bill Killam, Steve and Joy Killam of Lufkin, and Bridget and David Ness of La Pointer and a number of great-grandchildren. She also leaves sisters Hallie Riggs of Richardson, and Coleman Johnson of Columbia, Miss.; three sisters-in-law, Dr. Ruth Bain of Austin, Louise Powell of Kerrville and Jane Bain of North Little Rock, Ark. Frances also leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to First United Methodist Church of Centerville or to the Leon County Courthouse restoration.
