James Houston Birmingham, 92, a devoted father and grandfather, passed away Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Greenwood Garden Chapel.
Burial will follow in the Greenwood Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the UMW of the First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth.
James was born March 6, 1914, to Katherine Polly Barber Birmingham and James Harris Birmingham in Atlanta. He served in the U.S. Army for three and a half years during World War II, being awarded the Bronze Star while in Italy. He was in the 10th Mountain Division. James worked for Texas Electric Service Company for 42 years in Eastland, Sweetwater and Fort Worth. He married Ruby Carolyn Doss on Aug. 10, 1940, a marriage that lasted 64 years.
He had two sons, James Jr. and Joseph C. Birmingham. James had a range of interests during his lifetime which included hunting, fishing, reading and traveling.
He touched many lives with his caring nature and gentle humor. James was a member of First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn Birmingham; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include sons, Jimmy Birmingham and his wife, Rosari, and Joe Birmingham and his wife, Evelyn; grandchildren, Brian Birmingham, Alicia Birmingham, Michael Birmingham and his wife, Diana, Mark Birmingham and his wife, Jessica, and Jim Birmingham; and great-granddaughters, Bailey and Ruby Birmingham, and Julia Rose Snyder.
