Edna Blair, age 97, of Tampa, FL, formerly of Indiana, passed away Monday, November 20, 2006 at the Sunrise Village Retirement Center in Tampa, FL. The daughter of Marie and Carl Groberg, she was born in Sweden on October 2, 1909. A 1928 graduate of Emerson High School, she married Leslie Blair in 1931. Les preceded her in death on November 22, 1985 as did her brother, Swan Groberg in 1977. Survivors include her brother, Richard (Barbara) Groberg of Summerfield, FL; two sons: Brian Blair of Tampa, FL and Jim (Jody) Blair of Kouts, IN; one daughter, Janice (Bert) Gilbert of Valparaiso, IN. Edna had 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Edna and Les operated farms, first in Portage, IN, where they specialized in tomatoes; then Valparaiso, IN; and later, a 1400 acre cattle ranch in Arkansas. They retired to Tampa, FL in 1983. Edna also had worked for Harold Rogers at the Valparaiso Park System, sold insurance for Farm Bureau Insurance and worked several positions for Porter County offices at the old courthouse in Valparaiso, IN. Edna wrote many poems and for many years did free-lance writing and family activity columns for local newspapers, both in Indiana and Arkansas. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage, IN with Pastor Gene Tanner officiating. Burial of the ashes immediately following at McCool Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeralhome. www.funeral1.com.
