Emy Lou Amundson was born May 15, 1928 to Abner and Olympia (Holm) Amundson. She graduated from Garretson High School in 1946 and then attended Stewarts Beauty School. She began her life-long career as a beauty operator. Emy Lou was united in marriage with O. Kermit Nelson on July 19, 1946 at Palisade Lutheran Church near Garretson. The couple farmed before moving to Sioux Falls, SD in 1950. She worked for Elenor Lane's Beauty Salon then started her own beauty shop, Emy Lou's Beauty Parlor.
Emy Lou loved pretty hair, nails and jewelry, and she is sure to make Heaven more beautiful as a "fashionable angel." She was very proud of her Icelandic heritage. She was an active member of East Side Lutheran Church and was a part of Ladies of the Moose 273. She enjoyed painting, drawing, watching her soap operas (and later discussing the day's happenings with Donna Mae) and having lunch and shopping with her dear friends. She and Kermit enjoyed dancing together and spending time with their friends and family.
Emy Lou is survived by her children, Nancy Nelson, Mountain Lake, MN and Randy Nelson and his wife, Sara, White Bear Lake, MN; grandson, Jacob Nelson, Alpine, TX; 2 step-grandchildren, Julie Ross and her husband, Mike Glem and Andy Ross and his wife, Angela, all of White Bear Lake, MN; 4 step-great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Amundson and his wife, Ella, Port Wing, WI; sister, Alice Ann Johnson and her husband, Skip, Laveta, CO; godson, Gale Benson and his wife, Mary Jo, Sioux Falls, SD; cousin Barb Foltz and her husband, Dave, Rock Rapids, IA; and her very special cousin, Donna Mae Benson, Sioux Falls, SD.
She was preceded in death by her husband, O. Kermit Nelson; her parents, Abner and Olympia Amundson; special cousins, Wallace Lincoln Benson, Bill Holm and Doris Benson; many beloved feline and canine friends; and many special family members.
