Amos Carpenter, Marshallville, Ex-Mayor, Dies---1-26-1967--Amos L. (Curly) Carpenter, 78, of West Market Street, Marshallville, a former mayor of the village, died Thursday morning at Orrville Dunlap Hospital, where he had been five weeks.
He was born December 11, 1888, in Belmont Co to Robert and Kate Kocher Carpenter and lived in Rittman for 20 years. He had lived in Marshallville the past 35 years.
Mr. Carpenter, a contractor, built Rittman City Hall, Rittman Chruch of Christ and the old post office building and many other buildings in Rittman and the area. He was mayor of Marshallville for eight years. He was a member of the Chruch of Christ in Barberton.
Sons Paul (1920) and Harold (1952) died previously. Surviving are his wife, Bertha, at home; a son, Robert, who is mayor of Marshallville; two daughters, Mrs, Eva Maurer of Edinburg, Texas, and Hazel Kick of Rittman; a brother, Ross of Powhatan Point, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 pm Saturday at Rittman Church of Christ with Rev. George Lemasters of Barberton officiating. Burial will be in Rittman Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 Friday at Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman and at the Chruch one hour before services.
