Ford B. Burton [F. B. Burton], according to informant and son Austin Burton [Austin David Burton, 1894- 1975], was born 15 SEP 1850 in Greensboro, AL, and died a widower at 88-years-old on 16 SEP 1938 in Precinct no. 3, Gonzales County, TX. He was interred at St. Phillips Cemetery on 18 SEP 1938 in Rosanky, Bastrop County, TX, in an area sometimes referred to as "the Brush". Austin Burton identifies Ford B. Burton's father as "Burl Burton", but does not identify a mother. His spouse is named as "Mary Burton", and he is listed as a widower. According to his granddaughters Annie Bell Walker, nee Mills [1932—2017] and Elnoria M. Butler, nee Mills, Ford allegedly wore and kept various names pursuant to his enslavement: Ford/t Ben/d/jamin Steven Austin Easton Weston Boston Pennington Rogers Burton [Face-to-face reunion-interviews: Andrew Hardaway with Dorris Nell DYKES, Elnoria Malissa BUTLER, Annie Bell WALKER [1932-2017], Dorothy Grace MILLS[1929-2014], San Antonio, and Kerrville, TX, 2007]. Sometimes Ford's names are reordered but remain consistent as part of family lore. Ford B. Burton was first enumerated in 1870 in Wharton County, TX with his presumed father or grandfather, Lewis Burton, who was aged 65 years and from Alabama. Ford B. Burton is denoted throughout the census years as a farm laborer, farmer and sharecropper, and a Wharton County Jail inmate who was pardoned by the state on 20 FEB 1886. He was married to Emaline Sanders on 23 JUL 1888 in Fayette County, TX, which offers that Ford may have been married previously (given census data in the year 1880 listing him as married).
