After Thomas DeVane died in 1816, Mary Larkins DeVane,despite being up in years, moved to Alabama with her daughter, Margaret DeVane King.
Margaret DeVane King was the mother of William Rufus DeVane King who was one of the first Senators to represent the new state and later Vice-President of the United States and is buried here.

In his Will, Wm. Rufus DeVane King left instructions that a vault large enough to hold 10 people be build so that his mother, Margaret D. King, and his grandmother , Mary Larkins DeVane could be placed together along with other family members. Some believe this never happened as a major flood destoryed the cemetery at West Bend where the original graves were located.
