Mr. Charles Lewis Douglas, Jr. of Atlanta died unexpectedly at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Georgia. He was born at Emory Hospital, and was the oldest son of Dr. Charles Lewis Douglas, Sr. and Margaret Louise Tillman. He was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Bettye Lee Phelps; brother, James Tillman Douglas; and granddaughter Amber Lynne Douglas. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Anne Hinson Douglas; his five children: John and Becky Douglas, Lee and Nancy Douglas, Leslie and Steve Hurst, Lynne and Brad Miller, and Margaret and Joe Hamilton, all of Atlanta. Charlie grew up in Decatur, graduating from Decatur Boys High in 1941. He attended both the University of South Carolina and the University of Georgia. He served in the Army from 1943 - 1945, training at Camp Hale in Leadville, Colorado for the ski troops. He then served in the infantry in the Pacific Theatre, including New Caledonia, the Solomon Islands, the Philippines and Japan. He worked for Warner Brothers in Charlotte, North Carolina and then joined the Travelers Insurance Company in 1950, serving as Director of Field Operations in Louisiana and Mississippi. He moved his family back to Decatur in 1963. In 1969, he formed Love Douglas Insurance Agency and continued a career in the insurance industry until his death.
