Marjorie Ruth "Marge" Bulmer – 95, Truro, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at Magnolia Continuing Care, Enfield. Born in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late Percy and Beatrice (Weston) Corning.

Marjorie was a genealogist, gardener and active in church and community. She received her education at Colchester Academy and Success Business College. She worked as a secretary at C.E. Sullivan’s Service Station, and for six years, she taught adult education courses through the facilities of the Continuing Education Program. She was associated with several organizations and was Past President of Truro and Area Council of Women, Emeritus Life Member of National Council of Women, Friend of the Library, Happy Harmonies singing group, Scottish Society of Colchester County, Little White School House, Historical Society and Fundy Family Researchers.

She was a staunch supporter of Brunswick Street United Church where she worked with all age groups, convened bazaars and weddings and held many offices, including archivist. In 1970, she was appointed the church’s first female elder. Her craft group honoured her with a life membership in the United Church Women.

When the Historical Society opened a museum in the 1970s, Marjorie became a volunteer, acting as Genealogy Co-ordinator until the 1990s. She spent many hours researching the hundreds of queries received by the Society from all over the world. It was through her efforts that an Archives and Genealogy Group was formed within the Society. For her dedication, she was presented with a Heritage Award and Life Membership in the Society. She wrote and published "A History of the Bulmer Family 1056-2000" and during this time, she became a life member of The Mayflower Society. In 1986, she was awarded a Zonta Award for dedicated service and personal achievement. Her favourite pastimes were crocheting, baking, playing cards and gardening, especially growing roses.
