Doris Maxine Jennings was born September 7, 1928, in Macomb, IL, the daughter of Herman and Violet Hulsey Jennings. She graduated from Rushville (IL) High School in 1946 and attended the School of Nursing at Saint Francis Hospital in Macomb in 1949 and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Her marriage to Wayne L. Abernathy took place on April 15, 1950 in Quincy, IL.
She worked at the Wasson Nursing Home and Galva Manor room and board, retiring after 28 years. Doris was a member of the Galva Assembly of God Church for 56 years, where she enjoyed going on Sundays. She also loved odd things that no one else liked, and watched television, especially channel Me TV.
Those surviving are her husband, Wayne, two daughters, Katrina "Tina" Abernathy and Tonya L. Abernathy, all of Galva, a daughter-in-law, Sharon Abernathy, LaFayette, two grandson, Bard (Marlo) Abernathy, Galesburg, Kipp (Michelle Offill) Abernathy, Rock Falls, IL, four great grandchildren, Zach, Bryce, Krayten, and Kieryn Abernathy, a sister-in-law, Jenny Jennings, Galva, two nieces, Sharon (Frank) Bainbridge, Galva, and Pam (Leonard) Nicolay, Kewanee. Also surviving are special friends, Ron Hepner, Ruth Hepner, Brandon Macklin, Mike and Karen Rohrig, Drew and Krystal Dirks, all of Galva, and Lenny, Jenny, and Aribella Fryer of Galesburg. Her parents, a son, Timothy, a sister, Shirley, and a brother, Gene, preceded her in death.
