Irus Van De Maat, 93, of Charles City, died Friday, September 29, 2006, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City. Irus Mae Wiltse was born November 9, 1912, at Charles City. She was the daughter of Orval and Lulu (Carter) Wiltse. She received her education at Maple Grove School in Chickasaw County.
On October 13, 1934, she married Merle Van De Maat at Charles City. Irus was emplyed for 13 years at Field Drug. She also worked at Van's Radio and TV, then OK Hardware. She enjoyed reading, feeding birds, doing needlework and puzzles, and taking care of her dogs and cats. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her family and being part of their lives.
Survivors are two children: Dixie (Jack) Teepe and Donald Van De Maat, eleven grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents, husband, infant daughter (Janet), and a brother, Leonard Wiltse.
