George A. Aker, 81, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, died March 31, 2014, at NEA Baptist Hospital.

He was born in Dyersburg, Tenn., and lived the last 12 years in Jonesboro.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mildred Aker; and brothers, Nathan and Leon Aker.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Pugh Aker; son, Shannon and daughter-in-law Robyn; granddaughter, Alison Aker McCaffrey and husband Josh; great-grand-son, Asher McCaffrey; granddaughter, Leslie Ann Aker; sister, Loretta Oldenburg and husband Don; and brother, Gene Phillips and wife Dixie.

On his wife Peggy's side, he is survived by Steve and Sharon Pugh, Paula and Chuck Scallions Bryan and Tracie Pugh, eight grand-children and 15 great-grand-children.

George was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army. He started his career as a barber and owned and operated the White Plaza Barber Shop in Memphis for 20 years. One of his favorite patrons was Elvis Presley. George also owned and operated Delta Realty and Clarke's Quick Print, both located in Memphis.

A memorial service was held at the South Caraway Baptist Church, Jonesboro.
