Mary "Deanie" Ettinger, born June 30, 1926 to George and Alma Heiler, passed away February 17, 2014. Deanie loved to bake and feed people. The joy of her life was spending time with her grandchildren. She was an animal lover, having many pets over the years. Deanie was an active member of the Catholic Community of St. Jude. She worked as a food demonstrator for L & L Food Center, as a maid and cook for St. Francis Retreat Center and for many years at Dawn Donuts, all in DeWitt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest "Leo;" infant son, Richard; and each of her 8 older siblings. Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Leo "J.R." Ettinger of Laingsburg, Catherine (Larry) Rose of Colorado, Penny (Dave) Borton of Grand Ledge, Jim (April) Ettinger of St. Johns, Dorie (Carl) Slater of DeWitt and Donald (Karla) Ettinger of DeWitt; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 21, at the Catholic Community of St. Jude, 801 N. Bridge Street in DeWitt. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 20 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington in DeWitt and one hour prior to mass at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Catholic Community of St. Jude Food Pantry in memory of Mary B. "Deanie" Ettinger. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes DeWitt Chapel.
