Elsie Gertrude (Boriack) Schimank, 96, of Lincoln was born on January 11, 1920 in Lincoln, Texas, the daughter of Oscar Emil Boriack and Alma Anna (Proske) Boriack. She was baptized at home on January 11, 1920 by Rev. Reinhard Osthoff and confirmed on March 25, 1934 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln also by Rev. Reinhard Osthoff. Her confirmation verse was Luke 11:28, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

Elsie was united in marriage to Vernon Winfred Schimank on May 5, 1946 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln by Rev. H.A. Stroebel. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Oranell, Curtis, Calvin and Alan.

Elsie was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln where she had been a member of the Ladies Aid and helped quilt for Lutheran World Relief. She enjoyed sewing, taking care of her flowers, shopping, playing dominoes, listening to the Lutheran Hour Ministries and birdwatching, especially cardinals.

Elsie passed away the afternoon of Sunday, October 23, 2016 at the Giddings Residence and Rehabilitation Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar & Alma Boriack; her husband of 60 years, Winfred Schimank; her granddaughter, Bethany Schimank; two sisters, Mary Schimank and Edna Umlang and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Herbert Winkler, Victor Umlang, Victor Schimank, Edmund & Clara Schimank, Edgar & Lydia Schimank and Lorenz & Ruth Schimank.

Elsie is survived by her four children, Oranell Dunk & her husband, Jerrell of Giddings, Curtis Schimank & his wife, Sharon of Lincoln, Calvin Schimank of Lincoln and Alan Schimank & his wife, Penny of Lincoln; six grandchildren, Melanie Kovar & her husband, Brock of Bastrop, Angela Althaus & her husband, Andy of Tomball, Jacquelyn Lauderdale & her husband, Brian of Caldwell, Matthew Schimank & his wife, Rachel of Bryan, Melissa Lara & her husband, Raine of Irving and Mark Schimank of Lincoln; six great grandchildren, Reid Kovar, Ainsley Althaus, Braylon Althaus, Asher Althaus, Lincoln Lauderdale and Owen Lauderdale; one sister, Alleen Winkler of Fedor; one brother, Alfred Boriack & his wife, Bernice of Lincoln; two brothers-in-law, Gilbert Schimank & his wife, Dorothy of Lexington and Clarence Schimank & his wife, Jane of Fedor as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln with Rev. Dale Bohm officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brock Kovar, Andy Althaus, Brian Lauderdale, Matthew Schimank, Mark Schimank, Raine Lara and Reid Kovar.

Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Hour Ministries, the St. John Lutheran Church School Tuition Assistance Fund or to the charity of one's choice.
