Rachel Teague Fesmire, 83, of 511 Hickory Creek Trail, Asheboro, died Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

Memorial Services, 11 AM, Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at Jordan Memorial United Methodist Church, Ramseur.

Officiating, Rev. Josh Kurtz, Rev. Charles Lindquist.

Burial, Sunset Knoll Cemetery.

Rachel was a native of Randolph County, a graduate of Appalachian State University, and received her Masters Degree from UNC-Greensboro in Early Childhood Development. She retired as CEO of Family and Children Service, and a member of Jordan Memorial United Methodist Church.

Rachel had a passion for family and children and spent most of her career working on child care issues. She was a past board member of the Partnership for Children, served on several Partnership committees including the mental health task force and the Ramseur Smart Start advisory committee. Rachel was recently honored with the Athena Award, given by the Asheboro Chamber of Commerce for professional development of women. She also served as the first assistant director/office prevention in the State Department of Human Resources and was then director of the Office of Child Day Care Services in the Department of Human Resources from 1979-1985.

She was a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine from the State of North Carolina, and the distinguished alumni award from UNC-G. Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Fesmire, parents, Millard and Julia West Teague, and her grand-daughter, Lindsey Fesmire

Survivors: daughter, Julia Fesmire Hanover, and husband, Frazier, of Greensboro, son, Chuck Fesmire, and wife, Joann, of Greensboro, sister, Joyce Brown, of Asheboro, grandchildren, Christopher Fesmire, of Raleigh, Joshua Hanover and Taylor Hanover, both of Greensboro.

Visitation, 6 PM to 8 PM, Monday, Loflin Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ramseur.
