John Roe Family
Has Annual Picnic

WINLOCK ~ Descendants of John Roe, early pioneer, held their annual picnic Sunday at Lewis and Clark park. John Roe, his wife, Rebecca and family of seven children crossed the country in a covered wagon in *1884 [sic], coming from Lincoln, Nebraska, and taking up a homestead in Winlock on what is now the W. M. Marsyla home. On their way they stopped in Puyallup to visit Ezra Meeker. Instead of locating in the Puyallup valley, however, the Roe family decided to move on south hewing out a home among the giant firs in the rugged Ainslie district.

Of the seven Roe children only Clyde Roe and Mrs. Katie McKune are living.

Enjoying the family reunion were Mrs. Lettie Roe, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Roe, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Roe, and family of Salkum, Mr. and Mrs. Harry McKune, Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Bowers and family, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Studer and family, Mr. and Mrs. George McKune and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Noble Farmer and son Keith.

NOTE: They were still in Iowa in 1884. Left Nebraska sometime after June 1885. Visit to Ezra Meeker in Puyallup, WA, would have been before Oct. 1890.
