She married Jack Vaughn McKee on Sept. 18, 1946.∼Joan M. McKee, of 1701 Pentridge Cove, Williamsport, died peacefully at the Gatehouse on Oct. 12, 2012, with her husband and daughter at her side. She was born on Aug. 18, 1922, to Dr. and Mrs. Harold P. Decker. She married Jack V. McKee on Sept. 18, 1946. She was a faithful and devoted wife; Joan and Jack recently celebrated their 66th anniversary.
A 1940 graduate of Williamsport High School, Joan subsequently earned a B.A. in economics from Connecticut College for Women. She spent a short career in retailing at G. Fox in Hartford, Conn., and Brozman's in Williamsport, where she ran the children's clothing department. For the remainder of her life, Joan was a full time wife and mother, making a home for her husband and two daughters in four states and six cities, before retiring to Williamsport in 1965.
In addition to being a compassionate and loving mother, a fun-loving grandma and proud great-grandmother, Joan was the quintessential neighborhood mom: a caregiver and counselor to many, a baker of pies, a knitter of sweaters, a joyous storyteller.

She was devoted to the development of children and served as a volunteer aid in public school classrooms. Her most recent service was at Loyalsock Valley Elementary School, where the third graders looked forward to an end-of-school outing at "Camp McKee," Joan's family homestead on the Loyalsock Creek. Joan also served on the Board of Directors of the Williamsport Home and was a member of the women's organization of First Presbyterian Church in Williamsport.
Besides her loving husband Jack, Joan is survived by a daughter, Barbara McKee Jarmoska of Montoursville; two grandchildren, Melian McKee of Williamsport and Dustan McKee of Nicholville, N.Y.; and two great-grandchildren, Cerafina and Archer McKee.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan McKee Garvey; a sister, Lois Decker O'Neill; and a brother, Robert Decker.
The Loyalsock Valley and the creek that runs through it has been a vital part of Joan's life since childhood. The family asks that any contributions in her memory be used to help preserve the beauty and quality of the creek through donations to: Loyalsock Creek Watershed Association, P.O. Box 216, Montoursville, PA 17754.
The receiving of friends and family will be held in the lounge of First Presbyterian Church, 102 E. Third St., from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, with a memorial service in the church sanctuary immediately following. The family will provide flowers, and burial will be at their convenience.
