Maxine Cromwell Williams was born in Hardin County, on March 20, 1916, the daughter of the late M.C. (Dock) and Gracie Spencer Cromwell.

On Dec. 15, 1934, she was united in marriage to John J. Williams, who preceded his wife in death on Dec. 22, 2004.

Mrs. Williams retired from Dillion Manufacturing. She was a member of Savannah Church of Christ.

Mrs. Williams departed this life on Tuesday, May 10,2011 in Savannah, at the age of 95 years, 1 month and 20 days.

Mrs. Williams is survived by one son, Jim C. Williams of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Terry Williams, Randy Williams, Duane Williams, Lisa Glenn, Michelle Lester and Tracy Dillon; 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Cromwell Hunnicutt of San Gabriel, Calif.; and one brother, Carter Cromwell of Savannah.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Johnny J. Williams and David Williams, one daughter, Juliet B. Williams Neese, one sister, Jewel Cromwell Connor and four brothers, Dudley, Raymond, Grady and Glenn Cromwell.

Maxine was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend to her family and others. She was an excellent cook. She prepared and served many meals for her family and friends. She had a deep passion for flowers. Her home and garden was filled with blooming shrubs and plants at every season especially spring and summer. She loved for people to drop by to talk and visit, and most always insisted on serving you something to eat before you left.

A graveside service was held on Friday, May 13, at the Savannah Cemetery in Savannah with Howard Rogers officiating.
