He was born July 10, 1921, in Harrison, Maine, the son of Elmer and Fannie (Kartinen) Harju.
He attended Harrison schools and was a 1940 graduate of Bridgton (Maine) Academy and a 1951 graduate of Wayne State University, Detroit, Mich., with a degree in electrical engineering.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
Mr. Harju was employed by Raytheon until his retirement.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed reading, spectator sports and spending time with his family.

Funeral services were held Monday in Trinity Lutheran Church, South Paris. Burial was in Harrison Lutheran Cemetery, Harrison.
Arrangements were by the Raymond-Wentworth Funeral Home, Bridgton.
