In the 1880 census Charlotte is living with John and Elizabeth (John's second wife) listed as "granddaughter". His son, William Harland and wife, Sidney, precede Charlotte on the list of household members, thus leading many to conclude she was their daughter.
Charlotte married John Malone April 10, 1895 in Wayne County, Illinois and the convincing evidence lies here. On that certificate Charlotte lists her parents as John and Elizabeth Lamaster/Lancaster. It is witnessed by Sidney Anderson, wife of William Harland Anderson, John's son and Charlotte's older brother. In addition I located Charlotte's Social Security Application transcription in ancestry.com and it lists her parents as John W. and Elizabeth Lemaster.
Elizabeth died in 1881 when Charlotte was 8. 1n 1900 census William and his wife are living next door to widower John and daughter Rhoda. Charlotte was probably raised by her elderly father John and her older siblings Rhoda and William and his wife Sidney.]
