Aaron James "Bud" Updegrave - Bud Updegrave was born January 1, 1921, at Sandy, Oregon, the second child of Lula (DeShazer) and William "Bill" Updegrave. He was blessed by his religious faith, and had many wonderful experiences during his long life. He died October 3, 2016, at Vancouver, Washington, three months short of his 96th birthday.
Bud grew up in Sandy. He joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1934. Throughout his lifetime, he participated in many activities in support of his church. In 1937, the Updegrave family moved to Fort Klamath, Oregon, where they began work in the logging business. Glide, Oregon, became home in 1945. For the majority of his adult life, Bud was self-employed. His logging trucks operated as Updegrave Trucking and North River Trucking, but he also ranched, raising cattle and sheep. Bud married Maymie Osborne on February 2, 1950, and they had two daughters. From 1978 to 1982, Bud served as a member of the Douglas County Planning Commission, following a move to Salem, Oregon, in the 1990s. Bud retired in 2004, and the Updegrave's moved to their present home in Vancouver, Washington.
Bud was preceded in death by his siblings, Lorena Dietrich, Dorothy Hunnicutt, Eleanor Clements and William "Bill" Updegrave.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Maymie; and his two daughters, Laurie (Ken) Knittle and Darla (Jeff) Myers.
To celebrate Bud's life, there will be a memorial service and reception, Saturday, November 5, 2016, 3 p.m. at the Glide Seventh-day Adventist Church, 19085 N. Umpqua Highway, Glide, Oregon 97443. A private burial will be held at Roseburg Memorial Gardens.
Because Bud was a life-long supporter of Christian education, the Updegrave family wishes to suggest, that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations for Christian Education be made in his name to the Glide Seventh-day Adventist Church, PO Box 48, Glide, OR 97443.
