WWII Pear Harbor Survivor

EMELANDER - Mr. Henry Emelander, Jr., age 93, of Comstock Park, left his earthly home to awake in Heaven a healthy man on Sunday, July 31, 2011. Henry was in the Naval Reserves for six years and served his country in World War II from 1941-1945. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He spent most of his career in the printing business, both in print shops and in sales. He was a member of the Grand Rapids Craftman's Club and several out of town organizations, as well as a lifelong member of Fairview Reformed Church, now Orchard Hill Reformed. He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife, Doris (Hodde); their children, Ruth (Mort) Zylstra, Bonnie Stefans (Dan), and Pastor Mark (Sue) of Orland, IN; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lois (Eugene) VanMaldegon; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. A service to celebrate Henry's life will be held on Wednesday, August 3 at 11 a.m. at Orchard Hill Reformed Church, 1465 Three Mile NW. Friends may visit with his family on Tuesday at Heritage Life Story Funeral Homes - Van't Hof Chapel, 851 Leonard NW from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday at church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
