May 21, 1949 newspaper article. Agnello's Death Ruled Suicide: Police Find Body In Presumpscot River. Westbrook, May 20. -- A verdict of suicide by drowning was made today by Medical Examiner Wilbur F Leighton after the body of Mario Agnello, 49, was discovered today floating in the Presumpscot River, police reported. The man, who had been in ill health, was last seen May 13 near the Bridge street bridge. Police dragged unsuccessfully for the body. The body was discovered at the foot of Foster Street by Patrolman Lester M. Clarke and George I. Libby, North Street. Agnello had resided in Westbrook the past 10 years, having come here from Portland. He came to the United States from Italy in 1921. He was born in Mazzro Del Ballo, Sicily, son of Mrs. Francesca Cuchiara Agnello and the late Louiggi Agnello. He served in the Italian Army in World War I. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. Besides his mother, he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ida Amadei Agnello; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Respolich, Richmond, Calif.; two sons, Louis A. and Ralph M. Agnello, both of Westbrook; a grandson, David Respolich, Richmond; and a sister in Italy. Committal services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the graveside in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
