Neil C. Bennett, 62, of East Jordan, died Friday, October 8, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, MN.
He was born on July 23, 1954, in Charlevoix, Michigan, the son of Warren “Turk” and Eulalie “Suzie” (Whiteford) Bennett.
He grew up in East Jordan and graduated from East Jordan High School in 1973.
He married his wife, Cynthia Ann Olson Willson on December 23, 1995, in East Jordan.
Neil worked as a caregiver most of his life. He co-owned and operated adult foster care homes, worked as a janitor at Charlevoix Area Hospital, now known as Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital, and at the East Jordan Iron Works, now known as EJ Company.
Neil enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his cabin in Curtis, Michigan. He was a avid outdoorsman and loved to cook and host great New Years Eve parties He also loved playing Santa Claus for the kids. He enjoyed his “Camp Kids” who called him “Captain Neil”.
Neil is survived by his wife, Cindy A. Bennett of East Jordan; four children, Jessie (Tony) Ayoub of Mancelona, Katie (Scott) McKay of Mancelona, Megan (Luke) Herriman of East Jordan and Jonathan Bennett of East Jordan; eight grandchildren, Joshua Argetsinger, II, Tyler Argetsinger, Christopher Gillissie, Abigail Ayoub, Blake Ayoub, Madeline McKay, Vincent McKay and Dylan Koenigsknecht; one sister, Marilyn Goebel of East Jordan; one brother, Norman (Rhoda) Bennett of East Jordan; sister-in-law, Kitty Bennett of East Jordan; Cindy’s family, Jerry & Carol Olson, Nancy and Dennis Denise, Allan and Vicki Olson, Terry Olson and step children Kris, Kim, Ken, Kathy Willson, Kelly Fant and families; numerous nieces & nephews; and his beloved Camp Kids.
He was preceded in death by his father, Warren “Turk” Bennett on May 25, 2002; his mother, Eulalie “Suzie” Whiteford Bennett on February 17, 2009; a brother, Randy H. Bennett on April 25, 2012; a brother-in-law, Walter "Butch" Goebel, Jr. on June 13, 2013; mother-in-law, Nancy Lee Ikens Olson on October 4, 2004; and sister in law, Laura Olson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. Gerald Garber and Josh Argetsinger will officiate with interment following at Sunset Hill Cemetery in East Jordan.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan.
