Verna Ader Harbuck of Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, left her earthly home to be with our Father on Monday, July 16, 2007. She was born in Davidson County on Nov. 13, 1920, to David Earl and Eliza Walser Ader. She graduated from Draughn' s Business College and was the administrative assistant in the N.C. VA Employees Federal Credit Union until 1983. Mrs. Harbuck was an active member of First Baptist Church on Fifth Street. In her quiet, unassuming way, Mrs. Harbuck made herself available to the needs of her church, serving the Ninth Street Mission (forerunner of Crisis Control), working with the children' s Sunday school department and enjoying a longstanding membership in the Elizabeth Barnett Sunday school class; her community, delivering Meals on Wheels and attending NARFE meetings; and her family, supporting Special Olympics and the N.C. Credit Union Network' s annual Henry Harbuck Memorial Golf tournament with a memorial to the Victory Junction Gang Camp. Mrs. Harbuck was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Harbuck; and daughter Verna Kathryn "Kathy" Harbuck. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a loyal friend. Surviving are her three children, James David Harbuck of Winston-Salem; Patricia Ann Pulliam and husband Col. (ret.) Mike Pulliam of Winston-Salem; and Judith Lynn Maynard and husband Harold W. Maynard of Hope Mills; four grandchildren, Capt. Christopher Michael Pulliam and wife Anna Spaugh Pulliam of Ruckersville, Va.; James Aaron Pulliam of Melbourne, Australia; and Andrew William Maynard and Dawn Marie Maynard of Hope Mills; great-grandchild Katherine Elise Pulliam of Ruckersville; a brother, Baxter Ader of Winston-Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews.
