Loren H. Arment
      Anchorage resident Loren H. Arment, 79, died March 27, 2004, of complications from pneumonia at 3rd Medical Group Hospital on Elmendorf Air Force Base. A service and burial were April 10 in Payette, Idaho.
      Mr. Arment was born June 22, 1924, in Payette to Loren J. and Dollie Arment. He was a veteran and POW of World War II, in which he fought as an aerial gunner on a B-17. His plane was shot down near Hanover, Germany, and he spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner in Germany. Mr. Arment moved to Anchorage in 1968. He worked in printing most of his life. He worked at the Anchorage Daily News, The Anchorage Times and then with his son-in-law at Alaska Printing Inc. until he retired. His family wrote: "He had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel and learn of different places. He has been a farmer, cowboy, small aircraft pilot and a writer. "His account of his experiences as a POW won first prize for nonfiction in an Anchorage writing contest. His family will treasure the memoirs, humorous writings and poetry that he has written over the years. "He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren loved spending time with him and have many fond memories. His grandson said of him, 'He was one of the most interesting people I have known -- if you could get him to talk about himself.' " Mr. Arment was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Hatch Arment, in August 2003; brothers, Ben and Bob; and sister, Jessie.
      He is survived by his brothers, Alvie, George, Dick and Dan Arment; sisters, Mary Fincher, Rose Ingle and Blanche Farley; his children and their spouses, June and Ray Morgan, Jean and Mike Young, Joan and Rick Grimes, Loren and Penny Arment, and Gloria Ann and Mike Milliman; and 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Arrangements were with Shaffer-Jensen Chapel in Payette and Anchorage Funeral Home.
