"Cap" was born in Spokane, WA, and moved to Portland, OR around 1917. He married Alice Marian Hughes in 1917, and they had three children: Charlotte, Marian, and Robert. He retired from the Portland Fire Department as a Captain in 1960 and moved to a farm outside of Mollala, OR. In 1997, due to heart problems, Maynard had to move into town to be near his doctor and the hospital.

He was a good granddad and father, and will be missed by those who loved him.
