Daina was born October 22, 1930, in Tatum, NM to parents Bevon Burl “Bud” and Mary Marza Chaney Burns.
Daina was raised on cattle ranches by her grandparents, William Floyd Chaney, Jr. and Mabel Morris Chaney, after the tragic passing of her parents and younger sister in a house fire. Her grandparents legally adopted her and nursed the badly burned 3-year-old back to health.
She graduated from Roswell High School and received on the job training while working in the insurance industry. She met the love of her life in 1959, thanks to a good friend, who, on January 17, 1960, became her sister-in-law. She and Kenneth have been by each other’s side through thick and thin. They traveled and had many wonderful trips together camping, fishing, and hunting with their kids in the beautiful state of NM. Some of their most memorable road trips were treks to visit their children in Alaska.
Daina has been involved in Scouts, Home Extension Club, Garden Club as well as being active in Trinity United Methodist Church serving on the church council as a trustee. She was also a member of the women’s organization of the church. Mom was· also known as the “Tupperware Lady” for many years and loved to meet new people. Her idea of retirement wasn’t exactly to rest at home. She gardened, sewed, cooked, canned, and raised chickens. She remained active to the end helping her children in various ways. She kept the books for her son’s business until the last couple of weeks before she passed.
Preceding her in death were her parents, sister, grandparents, adopted sister and brothers.
A memorial service honoring her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 8th, 2016 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Roswell. Pastor Glenn Thyrion will officiate.
