Mr. Albert Eugene “Ab” PhillipsM died peacefully in Cumming, GA, on September 30, 2016 at the age of 96.

He is preceded in death by his wife Madge Elsea Phillips; his daughter, Judith Phillips Wilson; his parents, Emitte Mynett Phillips and Beulah Genow Phillips; and his siblings, Maggie Phillips Nail, Carrie Phillips McMilon, Lavada Phillips McKenzie, Alvin Phillips, Alice Phillips Motes, and Luther “Bud” Phillips.

Albert was born on October 24, 1919, in Pikeville, TN. He served in the United States Navy in North Africa and Italy during World War II. The majority of his post-war career was spent at Standard Iron Erection Company of Chattanooga, TN, where he worked as a talented steel worker and welder.

On April 23, 1938, Albert and Madge Whaley Elsea were married in Dayton, TN. He and Madge were happily married for 71 years before Madge passed in October, 2009. They had a daughter, Judith Ann Phillips Wilson, who was the joy of their lives. She succumbed to cancer in November, 2001.

One of Albert’s favorite pastimes was growing his prized tomatoes. For about a month during the summer, he could be relied upon to supply most of his friends and family with more homegrown tomatoes than they could possible consume.
Albert was a member of Red Bank Masonic Lodge #717 F&AM for more than 50 years.

For more than 60 years, Albert was actively involved in White Oak United Methodist Church in many different roles from member to trustee to custodian until he moved to Sugar Hill, GA, in December, 2014, to live closer to his elder grandson.

Visitation will be at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace in Hixson, TN, on Wednesday, October 5, from 4:00-8:00 PM. A funeral is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 6, at White Oak United Methodist Church on Lyndon Avenue, in Red Bank, TN. Interment will immediately follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson, TN. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Albert’s life.

The family would like to thank caregivers from Benton House of Sugar Hill, GA, and Regency Manor Personal Care Home in Cumming, GA, for their efforts and dedication to Albert’s well-being and quality of life.

We celebrate the loss of a great man, husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and mentor from the “greatest generation” while Heaven’s angels rejoice his arrival and reunion with those he loved.
