He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and beloved son, Stephen Myers Early.
While attending Bridgewater College, he was drafted into the United States Army and served 38 months in the Pacific Theater, retiring as Captain. Mr. Early served for eight years on the Augusta County Board of Supervisors, representing the Middle River District. He also served as a director of Jefferson National Bank, the Virginia Farm Bureau, and NACO, the National Association of County Officials. He was a former President of the New Hope Ruritan Club, and a member of Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church.
The family wishes to express deep appreciation to the team of dedicated caregivers led by Sheila Groah and including Angel Banks, Helen Donfrancesco, Gail Mayer, Dixie Peltier, Heather Smith, and Melissa Stacy, as well as the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church, Fort Defiance, with a private burial service later at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crimora. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Bridgewater College, Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church, or the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah. McDow Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
